Man charged after allegedly threatening WA students with knife

A relative of a student at a WA school has been charged with possessing an article with intent to cause fear, allegedly after hearing that his relative was being bullied. The West Australian says that 'the accused is due to appear in Joondalup Magistrate's Court later this month'.

386 classrooms a decade needed in NSW primary schools

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that 'NSW will need an extra 386 primary school classrooms every year for the next decade'. This follows on from an Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) report on population growth.

Qld Anglican boys school to allow same-sex date

An Anglican all-boys private school in Qld will allow one of its students to bring a same-sex date to the school formal. According to 9News, the Headmaster said that the student was advised that 'in keeping with the school’s tradition and guidelines around the formal that it was the school’s recommendation and strong preference that they bring a young lady'.

ACT schools underperforming in NAPLAN

The Canberra Times reports that schools in the ACT are continuing to underperform. The report states that high NAPLAN scores are moderated by having the advantage of a high socio-economic status index.

In the UK, there are calls for sexual consent lessons in schools to be made compulsory, according to the Guardian. The lessons reportedly address issues such as child exploitation.

NZ police call for Facebook 'fight club' page to be shut down

In NZ, police are calling for a Facebook 'fight club' page to be shut down, according to the NZ Herald. The Facebook page has apparently been set up to allow users to post videos of fights in schools.

US art teacher accused of bullying student on social media

According to Fox31 Denver, a US high school art teacher has been accused of bullying a student after posting an Instagram picture of him on her personal account. The teacher apparently wrote 'STEM kids are trying too hard. I don’t know him, but I hate him' with the hashtags '#pothead, #STEM, #wannabecool, #dorkywhiteboy'.

US teacher allegedly given cookie laced with marijuana

The Detroit Free Press has published an article in which it is alleged that student gave a cookie laced with marijuana to a teacher. The teacher is apparently at home recuperating.
