The South Australian Labor Government has pledged $3.8 million in additional funding for school counsellors if it wins the March 15 election.

The Education and Child Development Minister Jennifer Rankine this week said the funding commitment would extend the provision of counsellors to primary schools with fewer than 71 students. These schools will receive around $6,000 to access private counselling services for students.

The Minister in a statement said the Labor Government, since it won office in 2002, had "increased the investment to $15 million each year for school counsellors at schools that are identified as disadvantaged".

“School counsellors help enhance personal development, provide advocacy and build resilience,” Ms Rankine said.
