South Australian schools are being asked to consider opening their grounds and buildings for more out-of-hours community activities.

A forum hosted by the SA Department for Premier and Cabinet on December 2 will discuss how schools can make their sporting, recreational and learning spaces accessible to their local communities.

"Realising the full potential of our schools as community assets is a high priority for the State Government," a SA government spokesman told Adelaide's Eastern Message Courier.

"The State Government also wants input from current and potential users of school facilities so the future sharing of school ovals, gyms, etc will work well."Sharing school sites is likely to relieve financial pressure on sporting clubs and councils by cutting overhead costs, the paper said.
