Following a push by parents, the school has embarked on a program to ensure that all of its teachers understand how to teach children with dyslexia. The Australian Federation of SPELD (Specific Learning Difficulties) Associations estimates that up to 10% of the population is dyslexic. In a [report](http://auspeld.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Helping-people-with-dyslexia-a-national-action-agenda-2010.pdf) submitted to the Federal Government in 2010, the association advocated that a national program be established for the development and accreditation of ‘dyslexia-friendly’ schools. "A funding scheme should be established to which schools could apply with a specific plan for making the school dyslexia-friendly,'' said the report. ###### Share this [mailto:?subject=Check%20out%20https://www.schoolgovernance.net.au/news/2013/11/05/australia-set-to-get-its-first-accredited-dyslexia-friendly-school%20&body=Check%20out%20https://www.schoolgovernance.net.au/news/2013/11/05/australia-set-to-get-its-first-accredited-dyslexia-friendly-school](mailto:?subject=Check%20out%20https://www.schoolgovernance.net.au/news/2013/11/05/australia-set-to-get-its-first-accredited-dyslexia-friendly-school%20&body=Check%20out%20https://www.schoolgovernance.net.au/news/2013/11/05/australia-set-to-get-its-first-accredited-dyslexia-friendly-school) ##### About the Author ![](https://www.schoolgovernance.net.au/hubfs/Untitled%20design%20(24).png) **CompliSpace** CompliSpace is Ideagen’s SaaS-enabled solution that helps organisations in highly-regulated industries meet their governance, risk, compliance and policy management obligations. ## Resources you may like ###### Article ##### Setting your boarding staff up for success: why policy clarity matters Boarding governance touches on child safety, complaints handling, student health, and much more....
