A mother has been banned from a Gold Coast state high school after punching and threatening to kill the principal, according to the Courier Mail.

Citing a recently published decision by the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT), the paper reported the mother had punched the principal in the head three times and had called him obscene names at a meeting in August last year.

When the principal tried to stop the mother from taking her son from class, she hit him in the mouth in front of several students and said her partner would come to school and kill him.

The paper said the Department of Education, Training and Employment was able to ban her from the school for two months. It then sought an order from QCAT to extend the ban to one year.

The son has since gone to live with his father in another part of Queensland.

"I am satisfied ... her presence at the school is likely to cause staff and students to have an apprehension of physical harm,'' said QCAT Senior Member Clare Endicot in her December decision.

"She demonstrated a complete lack of self control on 16 August 2013, a lack of respect for the principal, and a disregard for the harmful impact that her behaviour was having on her son and on other students.''
