Hundreds of secular welfare workers to lose their jobs

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that hundreds of secular welfare workers are set to lose their positions as the new School Chaplains program is introduced. According to the report, in Vic a petition of more than 1,500 signatures calling for the government to allow schools to choose their welfare workers, was tabled in Parliament.

NSW boosts resources to support Child Abuse Royal Commission

ABC News reports that the NSW government has introduced five initiatives to support and assist survivors in light of the issues raised by the Royal Commission into Institutional Child Abuse. Government agencies will also be responding to civil claims for child sexual abuse according to new guidelines.

SA Child Protection Royal Commission begins

A Royal Commission into child protection policies in SA has begun. ABC News reports that the inquiry has called for submissions into various issues of child protection and is due to report within 12 months.

Australian teachers abroad targeted

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has updated its advice to reflect a threat to Australian teachers working abroad. DFAT has stated that jihadists were encouraging the attacks.

Ex-head of college under scrutiny 

In Canada, the former president of a college is under scrutiny for allegedly taking surplus marble form a college building to redecorate her home. Sun News has stated that the College is investigating the matter.

UK Education Department criticised over 'British values' tweet

The UK Education Department has been criticised over a tweet in which it said 'Nonsense to say schools 'must teach gay rights'. We want schools to teach broad curric based on British values.' According to the Telegraph, the suggestion that gay rights were not British values has been heavily criticised.

US child apparently vaccinated against parent's wishes

In the US, a child has apparently been vaccinated without parental consent. The Huffington Post reports that this occurred because a classmate had the same name as the child. The mother of the child is upset with the school as she wanted to ensure her son was vaccinated by a doctor, and not at school.

Principal sued for bullying and discrimination not stood down

Also in the US, a principal who is the subject of a bullying and sexual discrimination law suit by six teachers that subsequently settled, is reportedly still in his position. King5 reports that the teachers have all found other employment.
