School principal manages nine schools across two time zones
ABC News reported of a principal who manages nine schools across two time zones in Central and Western Australia, over an area as big as the United Kingdom.

Two teens and a woman injured in stabbing at a Sydney high school
News.com.au reported about a science teacher who tried to intervene after a student allegedly started stabbing his classmates before turning his attack on her at a Sydney high school.  A 16-year-old student has been charged with intent to murder and two counts of grievous bodily harm.

Six pupil school remains open despite calls to repurpose land
The Courier Mail wrote about a “ghost” school in Gatton, Queensland, where only 1 student was enrolled in 2015 and 4 students being enrolled last year, costing taxpayers $255,000 per year.  This has led the Gatton community trying to transfer the students to a school 8 km away and for the land to be repurposed, but the Queensland State Government rejected for requests for the land  to be repurposed.

Perth teacher and doctor team up to teach sex education
Perth Now reported about a school teacher and a doctor teaming up to teach students sex education after they noticed a trend in the sexualisation of young people and the lack of knowledge regarding the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases.

Food delivery apps at the fingertips of Sydney school student
The Sydney Morning Herald reported about students using food delivery apps to order and deliver lunch to their school.   Students use a combination of UberEats, Deliveroo and Foodora to satisfy their appetites.

Pre-schoolers 'covered in sweat and urine' after being left on school bus for six hours
The Sydney Morning Herald reported of pre-schoolers being left alone on a bus for six hours in New South Wales central west.  Children were locked in the bus for the whole school day and were covered in sweat and urine.  The driver pleaded guilty to leaving a motor vehicle causing emotional distress.  The Driver is now appealing the severity of his sentence, including a $1,000 fine.

 

INTERNATIONAL

UK: Five-year-old boy chokes to death at Yorkshire School
The Guardian reported of an incident at a Yorkshire school where a five-year-old boy choked to death.  Paramedics were called to rush the boy to hospital, but unfortunately died later.

Canada: Bus driver fired after disable student locked in school bus for 6 hours
CBC News reported on a school bus driver being fired after locking a disabled student on a bus.  The disabled student was traumatised after being locked on the bus for 6 hours.  Police found that the incident was not criminal.

USA: Teachers accused of impropriety often move to other schools
My Statesman found that hundreds of teachers surrender the teaching certificates while being investigated for improper relationships with students.  As a result, this leaves few traces for future employers and public to find.  This has made lawmakers to propose changes to prevent teachers from resigning after allegations of improprieties with students.

Sweden: Single sex schools do not support a culture of gender equality
The Student Newspapers wrote about Swedish schools now moving from a co-educational schooling to a single sex schooling after decades of co-educational schooling.  This raised concerns that single sex schools do not support a culture of gender equality.
