A Brisbane high school has been forced to defend its decision to suspend a student for two days for having a mobile phone in his school bag, according to the Courier Mail.
The prinicipal of Mansfield State High School issued a statement which said the "school’s Responsible Behaviour Plan for Students ... clearly states ‘students are not to have mobile phones in their possession at school during school hours".
“Students found with a mobile phone in their possession and who do not have the principal’s express permission are suspended.
The mother of the student said the policy was “stupid and archaic”.
“The children are meant to drop their phones in a cardboard box of a morning at the resource centre and then collect them of an afternoon which is ridiculous for a school that has more than 1000 children,” she said.
“Marcus has been late to class and band rehearsals and missed buses home because of the huge line-up to drop off or collect phones.”
