School Governance

Privacy webinar and whitepaper for schools

The clock is ticking for the 94% of schools who said they were not ready for the changes in the Privacy Act in a recent School Governance poll.

Non-government schools have less than a week to prepare themselves - and their staff - for the biggest changes to the Act since 1988.

From March 12, there will be increased obligations in how non-government schools handle the personal information of students, parents and staff as well as others including volunteers, suppliers, alumni and visitors.

Non-government schools will be required to show they have practices, procedures and systems in place that comply with the 13 new Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) that underpin the new privacy law.

It will not be enough for schools just to have a privacy policy to comply with the new laws.

To help governors, principals and business managers understand their obligations under new laws, CompliSpace has released a whitepaper and one hour webinar detailing the steps a school should take in preparing for the changes to the Privacy Act.

The whitepaper details the steps a school should take to ensure their governance, risk management and compliance (GRC) infrastructure is compliant with the new legislation.

There is a recording of a one hour webinar hosted by CompliSpace Managing Director David Griffiths, providing an overview of the new privacy laws and how schools should prepare themselves.

CompliSpace has also provided some answers to questions it received at the webinar that was held last month.

These resources have been purposely designed to assist schools in briefing and training their boards and members of their executive team.
