Paralysed student loses case against UK school

A former drama student left paralysed after diving head-first into a paddling pool has lost his damages against his former school in the UK.

The Oxford Mail reported that the 25-year-old, who is now tetraplegic, had argued his former college had a duty of care to take action to prevent him from injuring himself.

But the High Court in London found the school did not owe the former student a duty of care and that the accident was not “reasonably foreseeable”.

“On a human level, I regret the conclusion that I have reached, but to my mind the legal principles are clear and the weight of authority overwhelming," said Justice Robert Jay.
