A risk assessment of Werribee Secondary College in Victoria has uncovered 56 risks to students and teachers at the school, according to the Wyndam Leader newspaper.

The report which was funded by the school council, which is also lobbying the Victorian Government to spend $7 million on repairing the high school.

"It is obvious that the entry of possums into the ceiling spaces of buildings has the potential to cause another serious fire,'' said the report, which referenced an earlier fire at the college in 2004.

"Apart from fire extinguishers there appears to be very few other methods of controlling a fire in the older section of the site.''

The report goes on to state: "Some of the older buildings have subsided with one wall potentially unstable. It is recommended that this area is barricaded off to keep students away.''

Around 1400 Year 7 to 12 students are enrolled at the school.
