Independent Schools concerned over WA cuts

The chairs of 15 independent school boards in Perth have sent a joint letter to the Premier Colin Barnett raising concerns over funding cuts, according to the West Australian newspaper.

"We clearly see the significant impact that these cuts will have on our schools' ability to provide essential services to our students and deliver a quality education," said the letter from the schools located in the north metropolitan region of Perth - which included Perth Modern, Churchlands Senior High and Shenton College.

The letter said schools would receive 600 fewer teachers than they would have expected next year under the previous funding model and they would not be able to offer as many courses.

When asked about the letter in Parliament, Mr Barnett said he was unable to meet the group of schools because he received so many requests to meet school-related groups. He said Education Minister Peter Collier would meet the schools to hear their concerns.
