Independent and Catholic schools in NSW are set to receive an additional $790 million in funding between 2014 and 2019 as a result of the National Education Reform Agreement, signed between the NSW Government and the former Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported the State Government would amend the NSW Education Act to reflect the agreement.

“Funding to non-government schools will continue, but will be delivered according to an improved needs-based system, rather than being tied to the cost of education government school children,”  the NSW Education Minister Adrian Piccoli said.

Public schools are set to receive an additional $4.2 billion in funding over the six years of the Gonski agreement where funding increases over time.
