Several kindergarten teachers from an elementary school in the US state of Michigan issued a letter to parents which said “we are going to be enforcing a ‘no tag no chasing’ policy for the rest of the school year”. According to local news reports, the letter said that “several children are getting hurt daily”. However, the school principal later hosed down media reports on the “no tag” policy. “It’s just that right now, they’re learning how to play,” the principal said. “They’re teaching them how to play safe. It is not that it’s a no-tag policy for the rest of the year.”
Meanwhile, a school in New York state has imposed a ban on baseballs, footballs and lacrosse balls being played with on school grounds. The school said it was worried children could get hurt by playing various ball games during recess. “Some of these injuries can unintentionally become very serious, so we want to make sure our children have fun, but are also protected,” the school superintendent told CBS News. However some parents, according to the news report, expressed concerns the ban was primarily about preventing potential lawsuits.
