New Bullying Laws in Indiana

School officials in the US state of Indiana are now required, by law, to train all of their students on how to prevent bullying. As part of laws introduced in July, each school is required to form a “safe school committee” that develops a plan and policy that addresses school bullying and to establish investigation and reporting procedures for bullying.

The laws require schools to have “provisions for anonymous and personal reporting of bullying”, which has led to schools establishing whistle-blower websites.

Schools had by October 15 to train all students from grades 1 to 12 on bullying. “Instruction on bullying prevention may be delivered by a school safety specialist, school counselor, or any other person with training and expertise in the area of bullying prevention and intervention.
