Mother claims Tas Education Dept failed to protect daughter

10/11/13

The mother of a six-year-old autistic girl allegedly sexually assaulted by another student at a Launceston school is threatening to take the Tasmanian State Government to the anti-discrimination commissioner, according to the Launceston Examiner.

The mother said measures were initially put in place to protect her daughter after she reported the alleged sexual assault. But she told the paper the measures were stopped after one week due to a lack of funding from the Tasmanian Education Department.

"I feel like the worst person in the world sending her to school, because here she is begging you and hurting herself and saying she doesn't want to go, but you send her,'' said the mother.
