NZ Reporting of Schools' Results Under Question

20/10/13

Ministry of EducationA New Zealand Ministry of Education advisory group has questioned the need for the annual reporting of schools’ results, according to the New Zealand Herald.

“An alternative to yearly national standards reporting, such as reporting on national standards at years 2, 4, 6 and 8, should be investigated,” said the Ministry of Education’s National Standards Aggregate Results Advisory Group in its June report.

The Green Party, which obtained the report under the Official Information Act, said it showed flaws in the national standards which were introduced three years ago.

“It shows that parents can’t rely on that information. I hear from parents all the time that parents can’t understand it, and it doesn’t sit with what they are hearing from teachers,” Green Party co-leader Metiria Turei told the newspaper.
