ExcursionVictorian schools are trialing a new technology where parents pay for their children’s canteen lunches and excursions, using their mobile phones. The QkR system lets parents order their child’s lunch from the school canteen menu in advance, or pay for other school expenses, through a mobile phone application linked to a credit or debit card. Eight Victorian schools are part of the world-first pilot of the cashless system, which could be rolled out to other schools if successful. One benefit the system offers schools is reduced administration and cash handling.
